    Magnolia is an evergreen tree, usually branched from the ground. The leaves are 12-15 cm long, leathery from oval to elongate, glossy dark green, it's shiny on the upper side, tinted with russet on the underside. Large pure white fragrant flowers appear in late summer. These showy, soft, fragrant flowers have only one defect; they do not appear on the plant until after 9 or 10 years. After flowering, the tree produces cone-like fruiting clusters. As soon as the fruit is ripe, it opens to reveal bright red, fragrant seeds.
