Derived from M. Denudata and M. Liliflora, this hybrid is a slow-growing, large shrub evolving into a multi-stemmed tree. Initially, it flaunts a spreading vase shape, maturing into an ovoid crown. Notably, low branches may bend to the ground, matching its spread with its height. Recognized as one of the most prolific flowering Magnolias, it boasts over 40 cultivars with diverse flower colours and shapes, ranging from pure white to pink and dark pink. Blooms precede leaves, susceptible to late-night frosts. Typically sterile, it rarely produces fruit. Its roots grow both shallow and deep, with limited tolerance to dry soils.
